How to Understand Horses

To understand horses we have to know their natural behaviour. The wild horses in Dülmen, Germany, have been studied for years, and this revolutionized the keeping of horses.

Wrong keeping of horses causes many problems. Horses as social beings suffer when they cannot live in groups, and many diseases like bad teeth, colics or pulmonary problems are due to constrained movement and overnutrition.

Sex and love between horses: The research of the Swiss National stud farm in Avenches shows that horses, when they are free to choose, look for a genetically adapted partner. Fertility then is significantly raising.

Horses are athlets, money makers, companions, film stars and source of meat. They would have been extincted long ago if they hadn’t been so important for mankind. Today some horse breeds are extremely difficult to preserve, as for example the Suffolk Punch.
